Alkagesta met Singapore Management University students at Industry Networking Night 2026 on 15 October, discussing careers in shipping and commodities as the company develops its presence in Singapore. In an account published on its website, Alkagesta said the event was organised by the Maritime Merchants Society with support from ITI@SMU.

The company was represented by Agshin Bakirzade, its Commodity Trading Director for APAC, and Afiq Salim, Senior Marine Fuel Trader. Students raised questions about routes into trading, operations and trade finance. According to Alkagesta, its representatives discussed the practical aspects of daily work in the marine fuels business, giving students an opportunity to hear directly from people working in the sector.

The engagement comes against the backdrop of growth at Alkagesta Asia. The company said the business reached approximately 250,000 metric tonnes a month during its first full year of operations, with Singapore playing a central role in that expansion. Its event report did not specify the measure behind that monthly tonnage figure or provide a breakdown of the activity it covered.

Alkagesta described Singapore as the world’s largest marine fuels hub and presented university engagement as a way to introduce prospective recruits to opportunities in the industry. It said attracting and developing local talent was an important part of establishing a lasting presence as the hub expands. The student discussions covered several functions within the business, rather than trading alone.

The company also linked its engagement with universities to the commitments to people and communities set out in its ESG Framework. Separately, it said a record first half of 2026 had generated demand for additional skills across trading, operations and finance. The account did not detail recruitment targets, but placed the networking event within that broader effort to develop talent.
