Alkagesta said its banking partners provide more than US$1 billion in combined support through banking facilities and trade finance lines, highlighting those relationships at a summit in Malta on 2 October. In its account of the event, the company described the financing as a foundation for expanding its global trading activities and operations in Malta.

The full-day Banking Partners Summit took place at Alkagesta’s Malta headquarters. According to the company, attendees included representatives of financial institutions from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, the United Kingdom and Malta, together with clearing partners and local industry and government stakeholders. The programme focused on commodity trading, trade finance, risk management and compliance, as well as Malta’s position as an international trading centre.

Alongside presentations at the company’s offices, participants visited the Evos Malta terminal and held discussions with its management. The event ended with a gala dinner intended to develop professional relationships and explore opportunities for further collaboration. Alkagesta’s report did not name the participating banks or give a breakdown of the financing facilities included in the total support figure.

The company linked its banking relationships to transparency, regulatory compliance and prudent risk management, describing international financial institutions as important to its growth. It also emphasised the contribution of clearing partners, saying their services provide market access and risk coverage that support the execution and hedging of its trading activities. Those relationships form part of its risk management framework, according to Alkagesta.

The summit also addressed Malta’s appeal as a base for commodity trading and trade finance. Alkagesta pointed to the country’s European Union membership, regulatory framework, financial services infrastructure and network of logistics and storage operators. The company presented closer co-operation among banks, clearing institutions, terminal operators and local stakeholders as supportive of Malta’s continuing development as a centre for trading, finance and international commerce.
