European carbon regulation, energy costs and changing supply routes were central topics at the Argus Fertilizer Europe Conference 2026 in Prague, according to an account published by Alkagesta. The company said it attended the event from 20 to 22 October, represented by its Fertilizer Desk Lead, Vusal Muradov, and Fertilizer Trader, Tural Sabirzade.

Organised around carbon borders and trade, the conference brought producers, traders, importers and policymakers together to discuss the forces affecting Europe’s fertiliser sector. Alkagesta’s account said the opening programme examined the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the EU emissions trading system and tariff changes. Discussions considered how those regulatory developments could affect fertiliser prices, the movement of goods between markets and decisions on supply chain planning.

The first day of the main conference turned to Europe’s competitiveness against a changing geopolitical backdrop. Sessions covered the longer-term effects of interrupted supplies, volatile energy prices and changes in where fertilisers are sourced, Alkagesta reported. Shipping, the resilience of supply chains and prospects for natural gas were also on the agenda, linking the market discussions to the operating conditions facing fertiliser traders.

The following day expanded the focus to specialty and bio-organic fertilisers, alongside end-user views on food security and farm economics. Delegates also considered the outlook for clean ammonia as a possible response to risks associated with energy and geopolitics. According to Alkagesta, the closing agricultural market update explored how the Middle East conflict was affecting planting seasons and crop yields, placing those downstream issues alongside wider pressure on energy and commodity supplies during 2026.

Alkagesta described its attendance as an opportunity to engage with market participants and policymakers and strengthen relationships supporting its European fertiliser trading business. Its account focused on the conference agenda and the value of those contacts, rather than announcing a transaction or a new commercial agreement.
